It's gotten a little easier for people in Maryland who want to plant rain gardens.
Montgomery County wants you to to install a rain garden. It's a type of slightly sunken in, natural landscaping that absorbs runoff. It lets the ground absorb sediment and heavy rains, so that water and dirt don't go on to scour out waterways and pollute the Chesapeake Bay.
The County wants you to install a rain garden so badly, in fact, that it'll help pay for it, to the tune of $1200 for an individual or $5000 for a business. Applications for rain garden rebates have to be in by June 30. There are also workshops on rain gardens Friday and Saturday.
For more information about RainScapes and the rebates, contact the RainScapes office at rainscapes@montgomerycountymd.gov or check the County's website.
