Caps captain Alex Ovechkin will need to contribute to force a Game 7 against the Rangers.

The Washington Capitals are back at home tonight for Game 6 — a must-win affair if the team wants to keep they Stanley Cup ambitions alive.

The Caps are looking to rebound from Monday night's loss in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference Semifinal series with the New York Rangers. The Caps led most of the third period, and were just seconds away from stealing a game in New York and putting themselves in charge of the series. Then a late penalty by the first round's Game 7 hero Joel Ward gave the Rangers an advantage, and they managed score the tying goal with about seven seconds on the clock in regulation and then went on to win in overtime.

It was the same sort of anti-climactic ending that marked Game 3, where the Capitals set the pace for five periods, before ultimately succumbing in the third overtime to a goal by Marian Gaborik.

The Rangers now lead the best of seven series 3-2. Game 6 will tonight at the Verizon Center, as the Caps try to even things up and force a decisive Game 7. The winner of the series will face off against the New Jersey Devils, who eliminated the Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday night.

The puck is set to drop at 7:30 p.m.
