The Virginia Department of Transportation is closing the intersection of Lee Highway and Gallows Road in Merrifield at 9 p.m. tonight for repaving work. It is not expected to reopen until Sunday afternoon.
All businesses in the area will remain accessible, and detours will be in place to get around the intersection. Plans to improve the intersection have been in the works for a number of years, and the neighborhood is in the midst of a significant redevelopment project.
Virginia's attorney general Ken Cuccinelli will face former Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe in November to become Virginia's 72nd governor.
