A baby black and white colobus, born March 8, 2006, clings to his mother's fur at the Central Park Zoo in New York.

Two black-and-white colobus monkeys at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore are now parents. The baby monkey was born Saturday and is the first for two of the zoo's colobus monkeys, 14-year-old Keri and 19-year-old Bisi. The baby's gender isn't yet known.

Distinguished by their black bodies and long white tails, colobus monkeys are from the forests of equatorial Africa, but because they are hunted for meat and fur, and because of the loss of their forest habitat, the monkeys are in decline.

The zoo now has four colobus monkeys: two adult females, an adult male and the new infant.
