Tuesday's Democratic primary for an at-large seat on the D.C. Council appears to be too close to call at this point. Incumbent Vincent Orange leads challenger Sekou Biddle by 1.1 percent, according to unofficial results.

With 543 votes separating Orange and Biddle, the campaigns will now turn their attention to the absentee and provisional ballots that have yet to be counted.

Election officials say there are about 2,000 ballots out there, although more could come back through the mail in the coming days. And there are likely several thousand provisional ballots as well that haven't been counted.

The Board of Elections will begin tallying the votes on Friday, April 13. Those results will be certified on April 18. If the percentage of votes separating two candidates is less than one percent, an automatic recount is triggered. Right now, Orange leads Biddle by just over one percent, and many observers believe the race is going to tighten once these outstanding ballots are counted, meaning the final outcome in this race may not be known for days, maybe weeks.
