Members of the Alexandria School Board are meeting to discuss the fate of embattled school Superintendent Morton Sherman on Thursday.

Ever since Alexandria Vice Mayor Kerry Donley called on school Superintendent Morton Sherman to step down, speculation has been building about what will happen during tonight's emergency meeting. A recent auditor's report found that the city school system has what it calls a "dysfunctional environment" for capital expenditures. It also pointed out a number of problems with the budget office, including submitting purchase orders after invoices have been received. And that School Board members were given inaccurate information.

Donley and others wonder what would happen if the operating budget were also examined by an auditor.

So far, School Board members have expressed public confidence for their chief executive.
