The Jefferson Memorial was the scene of a grisly crime nearly two decades ago.

D.C. Police say they have made an arrest in a killing 20 years ago, cracking open the two decade old cold case.

Lamont Terry was arrested last Friday in South Carolina and has been returned to the District, where he's been charged with the felony murder of Chet Hunter Matthewson Memorial Day back in 1992, according to NBC Washington.

On that day nearly 20 years ago, Chet Hunter Matthews left his parents' Takoma Park house to meet a woman at the Jefferson Memorial. According to police, Matthews, a father of three, was forced to kneel on the ground and was shot in the chest with a shotgun.

Police discovered Matthews' around 11 p.m. that night, and he later died of the injuries suffered.

A police affidavit says two accomplices to the killing who have already pleaded guilty for their roles and have agreed to cooperate identified Terry as the triggerman.
