Some residents of Virginia can file their state income taxes online for free.

More than two million low-to-moderate income Virginia taxpayers can use the state's free online program to prepare and file their state as well as federal returns electronically.

Gov. Bob McDonnell says only a fraction of taxpayers who qualified for the Virginia Free File program used it last year. Both programs can be accessed on the department's website.
