Wizards Fire Coach Flip Saunders

Washington Wizards coach Flip Saunders has been fired after starting the season with just two wins in 17, NBC Washington confirms.

Saunders has been coach of the struggling D.C. franchise since April of 2009. There was some hope that he could turn the team around after the franchise selected point guard John Wall first in the 2010 draft, but Saunders has not had any success -- winning just 26 games in 2009 and 23 last season.

Saunders' career coaching record, which spans across Minnesota, Detroit as well as Washington, is 638-526.

A report from Yahoo Sports says the team has talked to assistant Randy Wittman about taking over as interim head coach.
