Dominion Virginia Power is beginning to restart the second nuclear reactor at its North Anna Power Station in Louisa County. According to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the power plant's Unit 2 reactor was at 7 percent this morning. Unit 1 reached full power on Friday.

The reactors automatically shut down after a 5.8-magnitude earthquake on Aug. 23 caused peak ground movement about twice the level for which the plant was designed. Dominion says the plant had been upgraded in the 90s to withstand stronger earthquakes than originally designed for.

Federal regulators gave the company the go-ahead to restart the reactors on Nov. 11. The company had said it would take about 10 days for both reactors to be back at full power. But Dominion said delays were possible as both reactors were being restarted in phases so that safety testing could be completed.
