A judge has fined a group of six people arrested with D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray during a protest on Capitol Hill this spring, according to the Associated Press.

A Superior Court judge found the group blocked traffic and failed to obey police orders to disperse. Each person was fined up to $200 yesterday at the end of a two-day trial.

The mayor and 40 others were arrested April 11 after sitting down and blocking Constitution Avenue near the U.S. Capitol. The group was protesting a compromise federal budget deal that imposed new restrictions on the district.

After their arrests, the mayor and most protesters paid a $50 fine to get out of jail and have charges dropped.

The group "D.C. Vote" issued a comment following the verdict, stating the threat remains from what they call "congressional meddling in local D.C. matters." The group says it is prepared to engage in protest again if necessary.
