AAA is warning folks to prepare for higher gas prices during the holidays.

It's not too early to think about Thanksgiving and the price of holiday travel, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic. The auto club says the price of gasoline is likely to be significantly higher than last year during the holidays.

Triple A says the national average price of fuel is 58 cents higher than one year ago, and it forecasts a price of about $3.40 per gallon when Thanksgiving rolls around. The cost of gas last Thanksgiving was $2.87 a gallon nationally.

In Virginia, fuel averages are a bit lower than the national average. The average price of a gallon last week was $3.29 in the state. That's still half a dollar more than last year.
