Several events in Maryland this week will mark the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

The marquee event of the anniversary in the state will be Sunday's unveiling of Maryland's 9/11 memorial, located at the Baltimore World Trade Center in the city's Inner Harbor. Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) says residents should keep in mind one constant of the post 9/11 world: security.

"While there are no what would be called 'specific actionable' threats, the fact that this is a significant anniversary of a devastating attack on our homeland is reason for all of us to be at a heightened level of awareness at all the various public functions," O'Malley says.

The state's 9/11 memorial will feature a 22-foot-long piece of twisted steel recovered from the World Trade Center in New York, as well as limestone from the Pentagon and black granite to symbolize the crash site of United Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pa. A total of 68 people from Maryland died in the 9/11 attacks.
