D.C. police say the most recent reported incident happened at 3rd Street and R Streets NE along the Metropolitan Branch Trail when a pedestrian was held up at gunpoint Friday.
In what police say is a common street-crime technique, the robber approached the man and asked for the time of day. When the man checked his iPhone for the time, the robber pulled a handgun and stole the man's phone and wallet.
Earlier this month, another robbery occurred in the same area. Police say there were five incidents on the Metropolitan Branch Trail between May 5 and June 5. The Guardian Angels have begun patrols along the bicycling and hiking path, which runs from Union Station to Silver Spring along the tracks of the now-defunct Baltimore & Ohio Railroad.View MBT: Metropolitan Branch Trail in a larger map
