UMD filled its two biggest coaching vacancies for a total of nearly $4 million dollars.
New football coach Randy Edsall is guaranteed $1.9 million. Mark Turgeon, the basketball team's new leader, will pull in a guaranteed $2 million. Both contracts include incentives for winning championships, but they also emphasize academic success.
Edsall can earn a bonus if his team has a graduation rate over 65 percent and Turgeon will receive some extra cash if his rate reaches 50 percent.
The contracts were released in response to demands from the Maryland newspaper Daily Record.
