The nine-count grand jury indictment charges Larry W. Seay with second-degree sexual abuse while armed, attempted fourth-degree sexual abuse and firearms offenses.

Seay, 37, is accused of using a gun while forcing sex acts upon three women in 2006 and 2010. Prosecutors say he was on duty and in full uniform at the time.

It was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer.

Seay is assigned to the police department's third district. Police say he's been with the department for 18 years.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier said in a statement that the accusations were "appalling."
