Animal Collective comes home to Merriweather Post Pavilion Saturday night.
(July 9-10) Human Landscape Dance
Teach me how to Odysseus, teach me, teach me how to Icarus
If you like dance and you like Greek mythology you’re bound to appreciate Human Landscape Dance’s performances this weekend at Dance Place in Northeast Washington. The D.C. dance company takes on the epic tales of Odysseus and Icarus Saturday and Sunday nights.
(July 9) The Dukes of Ukes
For something on a smaller scale there’s the 2nd Annual Ukulele Festival Saturday afternoon at Lake Anne Plaza in Reston. Musicians from across the country play tropical tunes, blues and pop and amateurs are invited to take part in a public jam session to close out the day’s events.
(July 8-Aug. 1) Views of South County
Photographer Frances Borchardt captures the people and places along Maryland’s Western Shore and then artfully assembles the photos into collages to suggest patterns and possible interpretations. Prints In Pieces: Views of South County opens at Alexandria’s Art League today.
(July 9) Meta-Merriweather
Experimental indie rock giants Animal Collective grew up in Baltimore and the shows the band members caught at Merriweather Post Pavilion left quite an impression. The band named its most recent critically acclaimed album of tribal rhythms, soaring synths and vocal harmonies after Merriweather and on Saturday they play the venue for the first time.
