When former manager Jim Riggleman resigned Thursday over a contract dispute, the team didn't have to look far to find an experienced big-league manager in Johnson.
Johnson had been working as an advisor to general manager Mike Rizzo for the past couple of years. Johnson has been a major league manager five times over his career with an overall winning record. He led the New York Mets to a World Series title in 1986.
He inherits a team that's playing very well. The Nationals have won 13 of their last 15 games and at 40-38 are back over the .500 mark for the season.
