Ocean City Council retracts free gas promotion.
What seemed like a good idea on paper, turned out to be difficult to pull off.
The town had promised one free gallon of gas for each night visitors stayed in town. But, officials couldn't figure out where it was going to get the gas, or how to dispense it to long lines of tourists leaving the resort.
They admit they also received complaints from local hotels, who say the promotion undercut a similar gas giveaway they were doing in the private sector.
Tourism officials say the town will do a giveaway promotion this summer, but it will likely be to one big winner via an online contest, rather than giving a little something to everyone.
