Residents and local leaders say the 6,400 Department of Defense employees commuting to the new Mark Center building could add hours to the commute on I-395.
By a 322-96 vote Thursday afternoon, the House of Representatives approved the National Defense Authorization Act, which includes a provision allowing the Secretary of Defense to delay seven Base Realignment and Closure relocations by one year.
The Mark Center complex is a BRAC project that is slated to hold more than 6,000 federal workers starting in September.
Northern Virginia representatives have written letters to the Secretary of Defense urging him to include the Mark Center project in the list of seven delayed relocations.
The Senate still has to vote on the bill before it reaches the president's desk.
