(May 2) BOHEMIAN BIG BAND If you want a big start to your week, Bohemian Caverns' Jazz Orchestra plays two sets tonight in Northwest Washington. The 17-piece big band features some of the District's jazziest hands playing Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Thad Jones, and some originals.

(May 2-31) THE FIGHT FOR KAHO'OLAWE Kaho’olawe is Hawaii's smallest volcanic island, but that didn't stop Native Hawaiians from fighting to recover the land that was used a military bombing range from World War II until the early 1990s. Washington's National Museum of the American Indian screens Kaho’olawe today through the end of the month. The 1997 documentary chronicles the years-long effort to regain rights to the land using traditional Hawaiian oratory, dance, and ceremony.
