Going Green At The Sweetlife Fesitval

Sitting in their Georgetown dorm room the founders of Sweetgreen decided the D.C. region would be receptive to a healthy eatery. They were right. They now have seven stores in the District and two in Philadelphia, but cofounder Nathaniel Ru says they aren’t looking to branch out too far.

"Right now we're probably going to stay as local to D.C. as possible," he says. "We really want to kind of win this area. We think we have a pretty good following here."

To get their name out, the Sweetgreen guys hosted a small festival last year at a parking lot in Dupont Circle. This year, they threw tens of thousands of dollars into a festival at Merriweather.

Some local bands, like U.S. Royalty, played ahead of major acts such as the Stokes and Lupe Fiasco. Ru say the proceeds are going to help promote healthy living in the region.

"We think education is the most important thing in terms of teaching kids at a young age to be as healthy as possible. You know it's difficult so we try to make it as easy as possible."

Ru says he had no estimate on how much money the all-day concert brought in for the charities.
