Montgomery County police officers will accept the drugs at police stations in Rockville, Germantown, and Bethesda on Saturday.

Localities across the country will participate in an effort to safely dispose of unused prescription drugs this weekend as part of the federal Drug Enforcement Agency's "Drug Take-Back Day."

Officer Janelle Smith of MCPD says they will take any medications, but are focusing on prescription drugs.

"The police department is asking that the labels be removed from the medications," she says. "There will be no questions asked about why a person is bringing the medication or what the medications are."

The drugs will be turned over the DEA, where they will be incinerated. Smith says county police have seen an increase in people foraging through garbage cans looking for pills that have been thrown away.
