'Educate Loudoun' Group Aims for Influence Over School Board Elections

The newly formed political action committee is called Educate Loudoun. Members say they're coming together to address challenges such as school overcrowding and teacher retention.

Kirsten Langhorne, the committee's executive director, says that it starts with finding the right people to run for school board.

"Eventually we'll work with candidates to support their campaigns both financially and through administrative support," she says.

Leesburg resident John Bischoff is another founding member of Educate Loudoun -- he says one of the group's strengths is political diversity.

"We have members that have very different general political outlook -- but we all have the same outlook as far as the schools," he says.

Educate Loudoun has $16,000 in its coffers right now -- four years ago, the average Loudoun school board candidate spent approximately $6,000 during the election season.
