
Interviewees were positive about how childhood obesity has been getting so much attention, but Cardoza says it's still unclear how the research is making a difference at the ground level.
As WAMU's education reporter, Cardoza has a lot of experience reporting about children. She says she doesn't want them to feel like their weight defines them.
Moored and Cardoza share some of the unexpected moments they encountered, including how open people were to sharing their stories and how children aren't the only ones feeling judged when it comes to their weight.
Doctors say families have to make changes along with their children to be effective. Cardoza and Moored found themselves changing their own habits over the course of the series; Cardoza says she still points out the McDonalds when they drive by, but she no longer insists on stopping.
