Maryland State Agencies Brace for Government Shutdown
The possibility has state agencies in Maryland scrambling to figure out exactly what it will mean for them.
More than 250 thousand federal employees live in the state of Maryland, according to a 2009 U.S. Census Bureau survey.
Tom Ditonto, a Montgomery County resident, says he's glad he's not one of them, especially this week when working for the federal government could mean furloughs, pending a government shutdown.
"It makes me glad for a change, says Ditonto. "I'm always envious of my buddies. During tough times, they're on the Federal side. Now I'm just glad that's not something I have to deal with."
Visitors will have to deal with closed Smithsonian museums and national parks like the C&O Canal.
Today, Governor Martin O'Malley will meet with Cabinet members to discuss what the impact of a government shutdown would be for the state.
