Cochran says it was appropriate for the U.S. to intervene.

"I think the president has done the right thing. To neutralize the air defenses in Libya -- that was a very impressive military achievement," he says.

Wicker, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, takes issue with the goals set forth for the mission.

"I think removing Moammar Gadhafi is paramount," Wicker says.

"It would be an unmitigated failure if we did not do so, so I'm disappointed that the President went in a different direction there," Wicker says.

For his part, Cochran is staking out a less-is-more position.

"I think from now forward we need to be restrained, and do only those things in a military sense that directly protect us from harmful attacks from others that would include Libya," he says.
