(March 24-April 29) APPROXIMATE LANDSCAPES German photographer Christoph Engel likes to hold a mirror to humanity from high above us. His aerial images often shrink our expanses into familiar objects of smaller scale. One golf course he captured is peppered through a rocky terrain, so it looks like more like an open hand. "Approximate Landscape" showcases more shots of humans and their interactions with nature through late April at the Goethe-Institute in Northwest Washington.
(March 24-April 24) TRAGIKING For a Shakespearean Thursday evening you can see Synetic Theater's presentation of "King Lear" at the Lansburgh Theatre in Northwest. An aging king's test of his daughters' love ends up costing him his kingdom. The Bard's beloved tragedy plays for the next month.
(March 25) SHADOWLANDS IN LA PLATA If you find yourself in La Plata this weekend you may want to stick around and sample the town's theater. "Shadowlands" is playing at Port Tobacco Players through Sunday. The production is about author C.S. Lewis and the fleeting love he found late in life.
