Goya Gives 75,000 Pounds Of Food To Area Food Banks

Goya Foods is donating food across the country, coinciding with the company's 75th anniversary.

The donation coincides with Goya's 75th anniversary.

The food is going to the Arlington Food Assistance Center, where Charles Meng is executive director. He says that's enough to get through about one work week.

"It's important to have lots of drops in that bucket because that's what fills it ultimately," he says.

Fairfax's Food for others is also getting 7,500 pounds of food, but Deputy Director Liz Reinert says rising gas prices mean need is likely to increase.

"If gas all of the sudden doubles in price, and you are a waiter or a person cleaning houses, you didn't get a raise," Reinert says. "That's what's happened to our families."

Goya is donating 1 million pounds of food across the country.
