Economy Delays Transmission Line Construction

PJM Interconnection handles the transmission of electricity in 13 states and the District. The group planned a new 275-mile transmission line in the region, claiming it was needed to prevent blackouts as soon as 2015.

The group says the slow economic recovery has forced them to delay the new line for now. But Keryn Newman, who has been fighting the transmission line, says it was never needed.

"Well that was all propaganda to start with and it's been proven that it was," Newman says.

Newman says she's now fighting the company's plan to collect 14.3 percent of the cost of the project from rate-payers annually.
