Employees with an all-hybrid taxicab company based in Arlington, Va., say times like these highlight the need for hybrid vehicles -- and other cab companies are starting to get in line.
Rick Vogel is the general manager of enviroCAB. He says in the three years the company has been open, people have really taken notice of its mission.
"People will actually go out of their way to use our cabs. They'll jump the line because they see it's green, they're enthusiastic like that," Vogel says.
Driver Mhamed Bouylazne has noticed that too, not to mention the break he gets at the pump.
"Regular cabs like Victorias, you use $45 a day for the fuel, but in Hybrids it's like half," Bouylazne says.
Vogel says traditional cab companies in Arlington are starting to follow suit.
"Our competitors have started putting hybrids on the road," Vogel says.
The company is pursuing ways to expand beyond its fleet of 50 cabs.
