Democrats Challenge O'Malley's Budget

Six Senate Democrats are offering the alternative budget. They say the money from the tax hikes would help restore funding for roads, education and health care.

Taxes would be raised in several areas, including an additonal 12 cents per gallon for gas. Sen. James Rosapepe, who represents Prince George's and Anne Arundel Counties, is one of the senators floating the alternative budget.

"Don't increase the gax tas unless the money is focused fixing the elevators at Metro, cleaning up the snow, repairing the pot holes and giving us a 21st-century transportation system," he says.

The senators plan also calls for increasing the cigarette tax by $1 a pack.
