RICHMOND, Va. (AP) Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli is asking the Virginia Court of Appeals to expedite the release of a prison inmate who has served 27 years for rape and other crimes that prosecutors now agree he didn't commit. Cuccinelli filed papers supporting Thomas E. Haynesworth's petition for a writ of actual innocence late yesterday.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) Some Virginia Tech alumni love the school so much that they want their final resting place to be on campus. The university now has a columbarium for alumni, staff, students and friends of the school.

PITTSBURGH (AP) A Virginia man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by a federal judge in Pittsburgh for his role in a social networking site that enabled dozens of members to share child pornography online. Fifty-nine-year-old Fred Woolum, of Lexington is one of eight people charged by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh in November 2009.

SALEM, Va. (AP) Caterpillar says it plans to sell Carter Machinery Company in a buyout led by the Virginia-based dealership's senior management. Caterpillar announced the sale today in a news release. Terms weren't released.
