Borders To Close Stores In Metro Area

Play associated audio

Borders will close at least 200 stores, including several in the Washington metro area.

The Friendship Heights Borders is among the stores that will close, and shoppers at that location Wednesday were unhappy to hear the news.

"In fact I was thinking of going to the other big box, but last week I decided hearing of...these problems, that I was going to go to Borders," one shopper says.

"It's sad," another customer says. "I like the store. I like to be able to come in and look at a bookstore every now and then and pick out books and magazines."

Also on the list to close in this area are the Borders at White Flint Mall, in Kensington, the location in the District on 18th and L, as well as stores in Vienna and Winchester, Va. The Borders in Bowie, Md., is also slated to close its doors.
