In his State of the State address, Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley said the state was grappling with a $1.4 million budget gap. To help close that gap, he's now proposing to fine reckless drivers -- those who have a penalty of at least six points on their license.

Drivers, who rack up more than five points in two years, would be charged $100 per point, per year, for three years. That means you'd pay an extra $300 per ticket on top of the citation's original fine.

The Maryland General Assembly will have to approve the proposal before it takes effect.
