(Feb. 7-March 6) HEAVY LIES THE CROWN Oedipus El Rey opens Monday at Northwest Washington's Wooly Mammoth Theatre. The modern retelling of "Oedipus Rex" sets the tragedy in Los Angeles where a juvenile delinquent turned king puts it all on the line for one woman.
(Feb. 4-25) MONSTROUS ART The Monstrous artwork of Jessika Tarr isn't nearly as grisly as it sounds. Taking her cue from children's literature and the illustrations found in the more playful of German storybooks, Tarr depicts dark and provocative themes with bright colors and fantastic imagery at Hillyer Art Space in Northwest through the end of the month.
(Feb. 7) CHORUS FEVER There's nothing dark about the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington presenting a double header of upbeat, a cappella pop harmonies, traditional choral compositions, and Broadway tunes Monday night at Washington's National Theatre.
