Busy Day For Metro Board Of Directors

Play associated audio

The Metro Board of Directors is expected to name Richard Sarles as its new, permanent general manager Thursday morning. But that's not all it's expected to do.

In addition to the general manager appointment, the board will also deal with the fallout from a train crash that took place in the Falls Church Rail Yard a little more than a year ago.

Back in late 2009, two Metro trains collided, damaging eight rail cars and totaling four more. No passengers were on board at the time.

Now, Metro's determined the total cost of repairing those cars, or at least the ones that can be repaired -- more than $8 million.

Also Thursday afternoon, the board will consider changing its own policies in response to criticism from the Greater Washington Board of Trade and the Metro Riders Advisory Council.
