Many Washingtonians will be watching the address on television Tuesday night, but for anyone trying to get around Capitol Hill during the speech or in the hours leading up to it, security will be heightened.
Starting at 6 p.m., only those with credentials for the event or other authorized personnel will be able to walk into the Capitol Square.
Then at 7 p.m., U.S. Capitol Police will close most streets in the immediate vicinity of the Capitol to automotive traffic.
The closures will remain in place through the State of the Union address and as those attending leave the Capitol.
