Water Main Break Leads To Boil-Water Advisory

Play associated audio

Monday morning's water main break in Prince George's County, Md., has led to the issuance of a boil-water advisory for areas affected by the break.

The Washington Surburban Sanitary Commission is recommending that people in the advisory area bring water to a rolling boil for one minute, then cool it before using it.

The water main break iced over a major part of I-95 in Prince George's County Monday morning. The pipe ruptured in an office park that backs up to the Capital Beltway. There was extensive water damage to businesses and vehicles located in the office park.

The boil-water advisory affects about 400,000 customers and covers a large portion of Prince George's County south of Central Avenue and Route 202 in the Capital Heights area.
