Dr. King's Life, Legacy Celebrated Across The District

Outside the unfinished MLK memorial on the National Mall, a group of activists marched, hoping to highlight King's views on economic equality.

Less than a mile away, at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library in D.C., dozens gathered to hand out food and clothes to the hungry and homeless.

There, Mayor Vincent Gray connected King's push for civil rights to the city's fight for voting rights.

"Let us do like Dr. King did, and that was he stayed after it, day after day after day," Gray says.
