Police Investigate Two-Car Collision

Witnesses say ice may have caused a car to slide into the lane of a large pickup truck, a head-on collision that occurred on Canal Road Friday around 5:30 a.m., killing two people who were in the car.

Two people who were in the pickup truck were taken to George Washington Hospital.

"This to me is an accident that could have been foreseeable and preventable," says resident David Tillitson.

Tillitson drives that icy stretch of canal road often.

"The water is there year-round and just a week or two ago I commented to my wife as we went through there, 'This is an accident waiting to happen' because the ice was halfway across the road," he says.

Tillitson agrees with other residents that poor drainage may be to blame for large patches of ice in the roadway.
