RICHMOND, Va. (AP) The 2011 General Assembly has convened with two new members and one vacancy. Senator William M. Stanley and Delegate Gregory D. Habeeb were sworn in when the legislature opened the 46-day session today.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) Police are hoping a new partnership with the social networking site Facebook will bolster nationwide efforts to thwart child abduction by allowing Facebook users to sign up to receive Amber alerts. The new partnership allows Facebook users across the U.S. to receive customized Amber alerts from their home state.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) Virginia energy company Dominion has settled on a 56-acre site in Natrium, West Virginia, for the future construction of a natural gas processing plant. Dominion announced today it has reached agreement with PPG Industries on an option for the property. Terms were not disclosed.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) Rappahannock Electric Cooperative has been awarded a $1.6 million federal grant to pay costs related to major snowstorms last winter. The grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will be use to help cover expenses for repairing downed power lines and restoring electricity.
