In Virginia, an Alexandria police detective has been arrested for drunk driving. Detective Eric Ratliff was one of two detectives who worked for the citys Office of Intelligence.

Ratliff was driving an unmarked city-issued Chevrolet Impala when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a concrete pole at the intersection of Gibbon Street and South Patrick Street at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Ratliff is a 31-year veteran of the force, and he is currently one of two detectives who work as a liason for internal security and intelligence to the federal government.

He was charged with driving under the influence and unreasonable refusal following an investigation into the off-duty accident. Police officials say hes been placed on administrative leave pending the results of an internal investigation and the criminal charges pending against him in the Alexandria General District Court.
