With tax season around the corner, Maryland's Montgomery County is seeking volunteers to give free help with preparing returns.
Organizers of the county program need volunteers to serve at least four hours a week as tax preparers, greeters, screeners and interpreters this tax season, from January to mid April.
Volunteers get free training on site and online. When the training is complete, they're certified as a tax preparer by the IRS.
Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett says families throughout the County received more than $8.2 million in federal, state, and local refunds and credits last tax season with the help of the free tax help program.
Volunteers can donate their time at multiple locations, including East Silver Spring/Takoma Park, Gaithersburg, Rockville, and Wheaton.
