Tips For Surviving Winter Travel

As the weekend's massive northeastern blizzard showed, traveling during winter can be challenging, to say the least. Whether a journey will be smooth and peaceful or a frustrating nightmare often depends on forces as random as which way the wind is blowing.

Kevin Britto, with Frontier Airlines, says the key to traveling this time of year is flexibility.

"You know, change your plans," he says. "If you've got to get back to work, you get there and...hopefully your job will understand...You might be a day late, or two."

But Britto also has some advice that may be unexpected from someone in the airline industry: If you're able to drive, drive.

While the D.C. area didn't see much snow, some flights were delayed or canceled because of Monday's high winds.
