Fire Damage Means Relocation After Holidays For DCPS Students

D.C. Public Schools officials say they're working on a plan to relocate students of the Takoma Education Campus after a three-alarm fire damaged the school building Wednesday.

More than 150 firefighters were called to the the Takoma Education Campus in Northwest Washington Wednesday morning to find heavy fire coming from the roof. The school was closed for the holidays, so only 10 staff members were in the building at the time, and no one was hurt.

But DCPS says there was significant damage to the building, and students will not be able to return in January. There are 260 students in pre-K through 8th grade enrolled in the school.

Administrators are working on plans to relocate students to other schools, and they say a meeting with Takoma parents will be scheduled and final plans will be announced next week.

Meanwhile, the investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing.
