The region has more holiday fare than you can shake a stick at this week:

(Dec. 21-23) SEASONAL CELLULOID For some seasonal celluloid, you can head to the AFI Silver in Silver Spring through Thursday. AFI breaks out its reels of It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, and The Muppet Christmas Carol, with Gonzo the Great as Charles Dickens.

(Dec. 21-26) LOCAL NUTCRACKING The Washington Ballet makes some bold casting decisions in its localized presentation of The Nutcracker. George Washington is the Nutcracker, King George III is the Rat King, and cherry blossoms will dance up and down the Potomac. Northwest Washington's Warner Theatre houses the spectacle through Sunday.

(Dec. 21) CANDLELIGHT CHRISTMAS For more spectacle, there's Candlelight Christmas Tuesday night at Strathmore in North Bethesda. The 200-voice Washington Chorus carols with the audience while attempting to avoid pesky candle wax. If you miss Tuesday's performance, there's a second chance Wednesday at 7 at the Kennedy Center.
