FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) Police in Spottsylvania County say they've charged the 18-year-old son of a slain woman with second-degree murder in her stabbing death. Authorities say Matthew Charles Robertson had long scratch marks on his neck after his mother Susan A. Roberston was found dead with multiple stab wounds.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) Two teenagers have been sentenced to probation for plotting to blow up a Virginia Beach high school. The two 17-year-olds pleaded guilty to two felony counts each for joining Philip Bay in the April 2009 scheme at Landstown High School.

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) Thousands of cheering families have given 7,000 sailors and Marines about the Harry S. Truman Carrier group a rousing welcome home. The aircraft carrier and its companion ships sailed into Norfolk Naval Station today, ending a seven-month deployment.

CHANTILLY, Va. (AP) Fairfax County authorities are investigating an explosion that destroyed a house in Chantilly. Authorities say four people who were inside at the time of the blast Sunday evening escaped unharmed. Others were evacuated nearby for fear of possible gas in the area.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) Spotsylvania County police say the son of a woman stabbed multiple times in her home is charged with second-degree murder in her death. Eighteen- year-old Matthew Charles Robertson is charged with killing Susan Robertson on Saturday at the family's home in Salem Fields and also attacking his father.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) State employees' donations to Virginia's annual charity drive are down about 20 percent from 2009. The Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign program manager says she's confident the goal of $4.4 million will be met by the Jan. 20 deadline.

CULPEPER, Va. (AP) Virginia authorities are asking for the public's help with a murder case that has remained unsolved for five years. A Virginia man on death row for two other murders was indicted in the death of Sherri Warner of Reva, but the prosecution was suspended based on DNA evidence and other information.
