Riders Ambivalent About Metro Bag Searches
After federal authorities foiled several terrorism plots against Metro in the past few months, Metro announced it will begin searching its riders, and Metro riders have mixed feeling about that.
Iris Campos, a student at nearby Woodrow Wilson High School, says mandatory bag searches violate her privacy.
"I think that's a little bit too ridiculous," she says. "People should have their personal space, and I think that's just...going too far."
Jeremy Pellegrini says he doesn't mind the bag searches, but he thinks fighting terrorism isn't Metro's job.
"I think that's on the FBI, National Security, to stamp that out before it gets here. And so far they've demonstrated a very good job in doing that," he says.
The searches will involve K-9 units and ionization technology to detect potential explosive devices.
