A plan released today for the future of Maryland horse racing was rejected by the Maryland Racing Commission.

Members of the racing commission and the public were angered by the plan, submitted by Penn National Gaming and the Maryland Jockey Club.

The group asked the commission to give them just 17 live racing days at Laurel Park and another 30 live days at Pimlico in Baltimore –- that's down from 140 live days now.

The commission rejected the plan unanimously, and now no group has live racing days slated for 2011. The chairman did tell WAMU that the group can resubmit a plan next month, but officials with Penn and the jockey club have no comment.
